Because our committed team of elves and sprites are on sabbatical, The Secret Message Project must rely on diligent teams of human volunteers from the tri-county area. But the effect is just as magical.
Teams of two or more join forces to distribute Secret Messages to select locations within each of the three counties: Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas. The assigned locations are general (i.e. Sellwood; Mt. Hood ski areas; such-and-such parks) and the volunteers decide amongst themselves where specifically they want to leave their assigned stash of Secret Messages. Coffee shop tables, park benches, sidewalks, MAX stations, libraries—all of these are excellent locations for stashing Secret Messages. The point is to keep them visible so that they’re actually found in a reasonable time period (burying in dirt is frowned upon), and accessible to the general public.
Volunteers are rewarded with sparkly elven karma, good times, recognition on the website and a $5 Starbucks gift card for participating over multiple days.
